Understanding Clarke County Releases
A Clarke County release is a movement out of one custodian's control. The key facts are the actual departure time, the authority for that movement, and the destination. Someone released on bond, after time served, or under a dismissal may return to the community. Someone transferred to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, another county, ICE, or the United States Marshals Service has left Clarke County Jail but remains in custody. The sheriff's jail docket is the local record that can separate those outcomes.
Release terms describe different legal events. Bond is conditional freedom while a case is pending. Time served means the court credits confinement toward a sentence. Probation is a court-ordered period in the community. Parole is conditional release granted by the Mississippi State Parole Board. A discharge generally marks the end of the controlling state custody or supervision obligation. A detainer tells the releasing jail that another authority may take custody. Each term sends a search down a different path, so the wording in the jail docket or court order matters.
- Release
- An exit from one agency's custody, either to the community or another custodian.
- Transfer
- A move between custodians, not a community release.
- Parole
- Conditional release authorized by the Parole Board and supervised by MDOC.
- Probation
- A sentence or court status served in the community under stated terms.
- Discharge
- Completion or termination of the relevant custody or supervision duty.
Clarke County Release Paths
The local record should be read as an exit record, not as proof that all restraint has ended. A judge may authorize release, yet another warrant or hold can delay departure. Likewise, the county may record a release to MDOC even though the person remains confined. Ask the sheriff to state the exact disposition and destination rather than asking only whether the person is still there.
| Release or movement | What it means | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Conditional pretrial release | Sheriff exit entry and court order |
| Time served | Sentence satisfied through credited time | Sentencing order and jail entry |
| Dismissal or court order | Authority to end custody on the matter | Order plus movement record |
| Probation or parole | Community status with terms | Court, Parolee Search, or Board record |
| MDOC transfer | County custody ends; state custody begins | MDOC search and Records |
| ICE, USMS, or another jail | Another authority receives the person | Destination and receiving record |
A person missing from Clarke County custody may have transferred. Missing is not the same as free.
Inside a Clarke County Release Record
The Clarke County Sheriff's Office says the sheriff serves as jailor and keeps a jail docket. It does not publish a sample or field dictionary. The items below are fields to request, not a claim that each appears in one Clarke form. Full name, birth date, and booking number help tie the response to the right person and custody episode. The actual release time, authority, and destination answer the central questions.
| Requested field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Name and identifiers | Which person the record concerns |
| Booking number and time | The particular custody episode |
| Committing agency | Who brought the person into custody |
| Charge and bond entry | Context, not guilt or final outcome |
| Actual release date and time | When Clarke relinquished custody |
| Release type or authority | The stated legal or administrative basis |
| Destination or receiving agency | Community exit versus continued custody |
| Booking photograph | The image tied to that episode, if disclosable |
A court record answers a different question. It may show a bond order, dismissal, plea, judgment, sentence, probation, revocation, or later change. It does not state the precise time a body left jail. Pair the order with the sheriff's movement record. If the entry says transfer, follow the receiver and do not describe it as community release.
Request Clarke County Release Records
No sheriff records form, custodian email, posted copy schedule, or public office hours appeared on the official pages reviewed. Start by calling 601-776-5252 to confirm the current custodian and access hours. A request may be sent or delivered to Clarke County Sheriff, 444 West Donald Street, Quitman, MS 39355, or faxed to 601-776-1025. Keep proof of delivery and ask for an estimate before costs are incurred.
- Identify the person with a full name, birth date if known, approximate booking date, and booking number when available.
- Ask for the jail-docket and booking/release entry, including actual release time, disposition, destination, bond disposition, and booking photo if maintained.
- Request electronic copies and an itemized estimate. Clarke posts no fixed amount.
- If part is withheld, ask for the nonexempt remainder and the specific legal basis.
- Compare the response with the court order, VINE event, or receiving-agency record.
No Clarke jail-docket or booking-photo retention period was found. Ask for the current approved retention schedule if a record cannot be located. A short online display would not necessarily match internal retention. Sealed or expunged cases can restrict public access, and those limits must be respected. Release by itself does not seal or expunge a case.
Clarke Release Record Access Law
The Mississippi Public Records Act defines public records broadly enough to include papers, photographs, recordings, and other material held for public business. Access remains subject to exemptions, court orders, and other confidentiality law. Investigative material, victim information, juvenile records, sealed files, and expunged material may require withholding or redaction. The agency must release segregable nonexempt portions and identify the basis for a denial.
Under Miss. Code §25-61-5, a public body follows its reasonable written procedures. If it has none, access is due within one working day after a written request. Procedures cannot authorize production or denial later than seven working days. When production cannot occur by then, the agency must give a particularized written explanation, with a fourteen-working-day outside limit absent agreement. These are outside rules, not a promise that every Clarke request takes the maximum time.
Fees under §25-61-7 may not exceed actual cost, and staff time must use the pay rate of the lowest-level competent worker. Electronic format may be requested when maintained. Mississippi law sets no universal jail-release retention period, so the sheriff's applicable schedule controls.

The image reinforces the local access pattern: the jail docket exists even though no public released-inmate interface was found.
Clarke Bond Release Court Check
Clarke Justice Court judges conduct sessions at the jail three times each week to support an initial appearance within three days. That local cadence can produce a bond or recognizance order, but it is not a fixed jail-release schedule. A bond order authorizes conditional pretrial release. It is not a dismissal, final disposition, or proof of the physical exit time.
Use the court order and sheriff docket together. The order explains why the person could leave; the docket should show whether and when Clarke County relinquished custody. Another case, warrant, or detainer may intervene. Justice Court matters and municipal cases may not appear as ordinary Circuit Court cases, so the originating court matters.
Find a Released Clarke County Inmate
There is no single Clarke County search box that covers county, state, federal, immigration, and supervised releases. Start with the last known custodian. The official county pages reviewed showed no roster or recent-release feed, so a blank county web search proves little. Use identifiers and follow the movement from one agency to the next.
- Call the Clarke County Sheriff's Office. Ask whether the person remains held and, if not, request the actual exit time, release type, and destination.
- Check Mississippi VINE for a matching person and agency. Read release and transfer as distinct events.
- Find the court order that supplied the legal basis. Use PAMEC for eligible Circuit Court access and contact the proper lower court when needed.
- If the destination is MDOC, search by ID or exact name, then use MDOC Records and the Parolee Search.
- If the destination is ICE, USMS, BOP, another jail, or another county, move to that custodian's locator or records channel.
- For older episodes, request historical records with the best available booking, case, or agency number.
A released person normally leaves an active roster. Use the release record and destination, not roster absence alone.
The Clarke County 24-Hour Releases page explains how to request a defined same-day docket interval when no public feed exists.
MDOC Search for Clarke Releases
The Mississippi Department of Corrections Inmate Search covers the state system, not all former Clarke County jail detainees. Search with an MDOC ID when possible. Name results must be checked against birth date, physical details, county of conviction, offense, sentence, and location. A county-only release may never have an MDOC number.
| Search or detail field | How to use it |
|---|---|
| First and last name | Broad search; verify same-name matches |
| MDOC ID | Best direct state identifier |
| Entry, location, and unit | Shows the state-custody path |
| Offense and conviction county | Helps verify identity and sentence context |
| Tentative Release Date | A projection, not actual departure |
| Photo and physical details | Identity checks, not release proof |
An actual state exit is better supported by VINE, Parolee Search, MDOC Records, a discharge certificate, or a Parole Board record. MDOC warns that release dates and types may change under state law. The public detail field must be called `Tentative Release Date`, not a confirmed date.
Open the MDOC name and ID search before comparing it with the captured interface.
The screenshot shows why an exact MDOC ID is more reliable than treating a name result as final.
Clarke County Recent Release Records
No official Clarke County roster, released-inmate filter, 24-hour list, 48-hour list, 72-hour list, or sheriff app was located on the pages reviewed. That is a finding about public web access, not proof that the jail lacks an internal operational list. Do not borrow a roster from Clay County, Mississippi, or a Clarke County in another state.
Ask the sheriff for a jail-docket extract covering a stated date and time range. Request the cutoff and time zone, actual release time, disposition, and destination. The office may need to redact protected data, charge actual cost, or explain that it does not routinely create the report. VINE can corroborate one person's event, but it is not a browsable Clarke release archive.
Clarke Release Court Trail
Clarke Circuit MEC went live on August 17, 2020. Its official legend includes closed, expunged, sealed, probation, post-release-supervision violation, warrant, and lower-court appeal flags. Those markers can preserve legal context after an operational custody entry disappears. They still describe the case, not the body's location.
A `CLOSED` flag does not mean the person left jail on that date. A `Probation` flag does not supply an exit time. Read the underlying order and pair it with the sheriff's record. Public viewing uses PAMEC registration, while restricted or lower-court material may require a clerk request. The Clarke Circuit MEC information page lists the local contact and public hours.
Clarke Release Docket Access
Clarke's official sheriff page names the jail docket as a core duty but offers no public inmate-search interface. The record exists while access remains human-mediated. A caller should request a named booking episode and ask what the release disposition and destination say. A disappearance from an online search cannot replace that answer, especially because no official Clarke roster was found.
This local pattern rewards a narrow request. Include the approximate booking date and booking number when known. Ask for maintained fields rather than demanding a document title the office may not use. If the sheriff confirms a transfer, use the named destination to continue the search. If the record is withheld, request the segregable material and cited exemption.
Call Ahead for Clarke Release Records
Mississippi Today reported substantial Clarke sheriff-office personnel turnover and later reinstatements in May 2026. That agency context supports a practical step: call before visiting, confirm the current custodian, and ask how a written request should be delivered. The reporting does not show that a particular jail record is inaccurate, missing, or unavailable.
Keep the inquiry focused on the official record. Staff changes, press coverage, and rumors do not establish a person's custody status. The jail-docket entry, court order, VINE event, and receiving-agency response remain the sources to compare.
Clarke Post-Release Supervision Check
Mississippi separates the parole decision from supervision. The Mississippi State Parole Board grants, denies, and revokes parole. MDOC community-corrections agents supervise parolees, probationers, and other qualifying statuses. Use the MDOC Parolee Search by name, MDOC ID, city, or county, then compare identity details.
Clarke has a dedicated MDOC Probation & Parole Office at 100 East Church Street in Quitman. It is a local routing point after a valid supervision match, not a detention site and not proof that Clarke County Jail released the person. The Post-Release Supervision page covers the verification chain.
A no-match does not prove current custody. Supervision may have ended, the person may have unsupervised probation, a name may differ, or release may never have involved MDOC. No Clarke-specific public absconder list was verified.
Clarke Release Alerts and Transfers
Mississippi SAVIN/VINE receives participating county and state booking-file events. It may report release, transfer, temporary movement, escape or abscond supervision, and return to custody. Search one person, compare agency and identifiers, and preserve the event text and time. A notice is not a permanent certified discharge record.
Federal routes apply only when the case or destination makes them plausible. The BOP Inmate Locator can show a past release date and `RELEASED` for exit from BOP custody. It does not cover ordinary Clarke or MDOC releases. ICE's locator is mainly for current or recent immigration custody, while USMS has no general historical public release locator.
If the sheriff entry says ICE, USMS, or federal hold, obtain the destination first. A court order gives legal authority, while a movement record gives physical departure. No BOP or ICE facility was identified within Clarke County.
Where Clarke Release Status Appears
The right record depends on which agency last held the person and what happened next. Current-custody tools and release records answer different questions.
| Situation | Best source | What it proves |
|---|---|---|
| Held now by Clarke | Sheriff and jail docket | Current local custody, if confirmed |
| Left Clarke Jail | Actual release entry and destination | When county custody ended and where the person went |
| Entered or left MDOC | MDOC, Records, VINE, discharge record | State movement, projection, or discharge by source |
| On supervision | Parolee Search, court, local office | Published or documented status |
| Left BOP | BOP release date and `RELEASED` | Exit from BOP only |
| Transferred to ICE or USMS | Destination, locator, court and movement records | Federal or immigration custody path |
Clarke Release Agencies and Systems
The facility map includes both custodians and systems that document what happens next. The Clarke County Jail is the primary local custodian. The Clarke Probation & Parole Office handles qualifying supervision but holds no inmates. MDOC controls state commitments. VINE carries participating custody-change notices. Clarke courts preserve legal orders.
- Clarke County Jail / Sheriff's Office: request the local exit time, type, and destination.
- Clarke Probation & Parole Office: route verified supervision questions.
- Mississippi Department of Corrections system: follow state transfers, tentative dates, parole, and discharge.
- Mississippi SAVIN / VINE: check participating agency events.
- Clarke County courts: obtain the legal order behind release.
- Federal BOP: interpret federal release dates and BOP status.
- ICE and USMS: follow a documented federal handoff.
May 2026 reporting described personnel turnover and later reinstatements at the Clarke sheriff's office. That context makes calling ahead sensible for a human-mediated request. It does not establish that any record is wrong or unavailable.
